Population

As recently as 1968, the total population of the country was 180,000, but has risen rapidly over the course of the last 25 years and is now estimated (2000 figures) at around 3.3 million, including both UAE citizens and a substantial number of foreign expatriates, who comprise the bulk of the labor force. The expatriate communities come from the Arab world, the Indian subcontinent, the far East and from Europe and north America.

The official language is Arabic, but English is widely used in commerce.
The religion of the state is Islam which provides the inspiration for all legislation. There is full freedom of worship for those expatriates of other beliefs.
